In 2004, the WANTZ Committee supported the Mater Medical Research Institute in raising funds to buy much needed equipment.
ABOUT MATER MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE:
The Mater Medical Research Institute is a world-class medical research institute conducting research that is aimed at improving health care.
The MMRI is located at the heart of the Mater hospital campus in South Brisbane. Driven by a 'bench to bedside' philosophy, the MMRI's leading scientists work alongside doctors to turn basic scientific discovery into better treatment for patients.
The MMRI is helping to improve treatment for a range of illnesses and diseases including:
- Cancer including prostate cancer, leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
- Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohns disease and Ulcerative Colitis
- Gastrointestinal bacteria such as Helicobacter and Campylobacter
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Complications of solid organ and bone marrow transplants
- Infectious diseases including Hepatitis C and HIV

ANNUAL DINNER:
The culmination of the WANTZ Committee's fundraising was a spectacular dinner at Restaurant 'TWO', on Saturday 28 August 2004 on the night of Brisbane's Riverfire. Guests include members of Brisbane's medical, legal, banking, government and business communities.
